According to statistics, from January to May this year, a total of 490 criminal cases of environmental pollution were investigated and handled, an increase of 247% year-on-year; more than 340 cases were solved, an increase of 220% year-on-year; and more than 1,300 criminal detainees, an increase of 288% year-on-year.
Starting from the beginning of the year, the Guangdong Provincial Public Security Department has incorporated the work of combating environmental pollution crimes into the special action of the province ’s public security organs to combat outstanding criminal crimes "Hurricane 2018". Under the unified command of the Provincial Public Security Department, the province ’s public security planes cracked the suspected environmental pollution case of Luo Mouhui and others in Guangzhou, the environmental pollution case in Dongguan Zhongtang, the “5.15” environmental pollution case in Qingyuan District, Qingyuan City, and Jiangmen Changyou Industrial Co., Ltd. The Environmental Pollution Co., Ltd. and other batches of criminal cases involving environmental pollution involving hazardous wastes with significant impact.
The relevant person in charge of the Guangdong Provincial Public Security Department said that the province ’s public security organs will further intensify the crackdown on environmental pollution crimes, resolutely follow the requirements of the Central Environmental Protection Inspector "Look Back", and fully support the cooperation of special inspections on solid waste and hazardous waste jobs. The Provincial Public Security Department plans to start a special crackdown on illegal transfer, dumping and disposal of hazardous wastes with the Provincial Department of Environmental Protection and relevant administrative departments starting in mid-June, concentrating on cracking down on environmental pollution crimes involving hazardous wastes, and addressing both the root cause and the environment of hazardous wastes Pollution reality.
